That Dreams of Awakening
Could you describe what will be waiting for visitors to Cabinet T this time?
In the gallery they will see an installation that has 3 parts - video, images and an installation of objects. They all complement each other. The Pepito project is about the relationship between two people, about its interpretation, about its misinterpretation, about the difference of understanding of one thing, about self-projection into the story of others, about a woman, about a man.
What led you to work with new media?
Probably a fascination with film and its narrative possibilities.
In one project you mention the role of women in society. I remember the line:"...I wanted to be strong like my dad, but then I realized I wasn't a man". Do you feel limited by that role in your field as well?
I don't. My work is often associated with gender issues. I don't shy away from it, but I don't primarily work with these issues. The experience of being a woman naturally comes up because I am a woman. However, the sentence you mentioned is from an authentic confession by a friend of mine. I work with the stories I hear and see around me, those are the ones that interest me.
Can you imagine yourself doing any "regular" work for a living? And if so, what kind?
If graphic design can be a regular job, then yes, I am mostly a graphic designer for a living. Or rather, I did before my maternity leave, which I'm on right now. I also used to work as an assistant in the art history department at the Prague Academy.
You also use family members in your works. Are they willing to collaborate? I'm sure you had to work it out together. How do they feel about it?
My family tries to accommodate me. They see it as a help and I'm grateful for that because sometimes they play the role of someone they might not want to be.
What does your work mean to you? Is it your way of communicating or just the need to create something?
Probably both together - to communicate and to create.
How do you feel about the proliferation of internet communication today? Do you have Facebook?
I see internet communication as a natural part of our time. I don't have Facebook, I resist it because I have no need to share personal information with strangers. But it fascinates me as a phenomenon
Do you think artists have a richer life?
I don't know, I have nothing to compare it to:)
